I hate to break it to you but guys with Diabetes Type 1 who are over 40 often have trouble “performing” sexually. (They can’t get it up.)
Even guys with Type 2 diabetes often get complications which mess up their love life or ability to function in bed.
Five years ago, I met a great guy aged 45 that is Type 1 diabetic and we’re just friends. I know it could have been more but, sorry, I want someone who can do the whole thing romantically.

I dated a guy with type 1 for over a year. I think his situation might’ve been a bit different. He never really accepted the fact that he had diabetes and looked at it as a HUGE negative in his life which, in turn, made it a negative in our relationship. Getting him to talk about it was really difficult, but I had so many questions that I saw no way of avoiding talking about it. He also didn’t really watch it carefully, so there were about 5 or more times during the year that we dated that I woke up next to him and he was unresponsive. That’s one of the scariest things in the world. Luckily, we were living with his parents and they could help me with him.
I think if you’re both really open about the disease it can work out a lot better. If I were you, I would find out what it was that caused problems in the past. See if it’s something you could deal with. Good luck
