Just search for effective weight loss on the internet and you will find a great deal of conflicting information. Some of it is even false. I would not be surprised if you felt confused by it all. Confusion comes from the content spewed by the many weight loss companies, who are competing with one another for the billions of dollars spent by people wanting to lose weight.

You will see that weight loss companies speak almost exclusively about fast weight loss. Little is said about effective weight loss. This is probably because these companies think that today people are impatient. They think that people want fast results.

Perhaps they are correct about people wanting fast solutions today. But they are wrong if they think that people dont want effective weight loss at the same time. However, the two are not compatible.

What Is Effective Weight Loss?

You and I may have different definitions for this. I would like to share mine. I think that a weight loss program is effective, when it enables you to lose weight and keep it off. It is effective when it helps you to look the way you want to look on a permanent basis.

Scientific studies reveal that you should keep weight loss to no more than 2 pounds per week. The studies show that people who lose more than that in a week, are likely to regain the weight that they lost when they finish the diet. The government goes as far as to say, that it is unhealthy to lose more than 2 pounds in a week.

How Do You Define A Fast Weight Loss Diet?

If weight loss authorities say that you should not lose more than two pounds per week, then my definition of fast weight loss is when you lose more than that in a week. Most of the diets that you see advertised, promote weight loss of 5-10 pounds in a week. What’s more, they can deliver that result.

What Triggers People To Go On A Diet?

The impetus frequently comes from what they see in their mirror. They are bothered by the unwanted fat they see every day. When it gets to be too much for them, they make the decision to go on a diet.

However, you dont lose fat on a diet. There is only one way to lose fat and that is by exercising. A good diet will help you to lose fat faster, when you exercise. This is what happens when you do an effective weight loss program. But you wont lose fat by diet alone.

Earlier I said that you can lose 5-10 pounds per week on many diets. This is true and your scales will provide the proof to you. However, you will not have lost the fat that you see in the mirror. The weight loss comes from a loss of water from your body. The water loss will have come from your muscles, thus reducing your muscle mass.

When you finish the diet, your body will automatically restore its water level to level it needs. Your scales will confirm that you have put back on the weight that you had lost, thus making your fast weight loss diet ineffective.

Use Your Mirror To Measure Your Progress, Not Your Scales

Because you dont necessarily lose fat when you lose weight, your scales may not be the best measurement of your progress. If you were prompted to lose weight because of the fat you see when you look at the mirror, it would be better to measure your progress by how much less fat you see in the mirror.

Dont be hypnotized by what your scales say. Go for fat loss. It results in effective weight loss.
