Distinctive Wedding Favors

Saturday, 30 July, 2011

The days of wedding favors consisting of Jordan Almonds wrapped in muslin are gone. No longer will a scented tea-light cut it as a wedding favor for your guests. Even the little bottles of bubbles are out. Unique wedding favors are now the way to go. Couples are now choosing items that reflect their personal tastes or hobbies, things their wedding guests can use. Here we will take a look at a few categories of distinctive items to consider for your wedding favors.

Edible

A little box of fine chocolates would be a pleasing wedding favor, but it isn’t exactly unique is it? Plus, what if one of your guests has a dairy allergy or is diabetic? How about mini bottles of gourmet olive oil and balsamic vinegar? After the contents are used up the bottle itself would be great as a vase for little posies! Or how about a little pot of locally made honey? Add a romantic touch by including a personalized tag that reads “Meant to Bee”. The last few years has seen an increase in the popularity of tea, so why not consider gourmet tea sachets? Or perhaps personalized tins of tea leaves? If coffee is more appealing for you and your partner, consider a little sachet of some fine coffee beans. Including a stick of raw sugar may also be a nice idea.

Scented

If your wedding has an Asian flavor, what about giving your guests a few sticks of handmade incense? Or perhaps an incense gift box that includes the holder as well. Some couples are choosing to theme their wedding in a vintage manner, including a gift of rose scented sachets for their guests. The gift itself is simple, but packaged in an embroidered pouch or personalized gift box, it becomes romantic and unique.

Kitchen

What about giving your guests something they can use again and again? Something that reminds them of your wedding each time they use it? How about a corkscrew and wine bottle topper set, perhaps with the handle in the shape of a heart. Or, for something a little more fun, what about a kitchen timer in the shape of a champagne bottle in an ice bucket? Even a blender would produce smiles with a little tag “The Perfect Blend”. An apple shaped peeler would also be fun, perhaps engraved with “Love is a Peel!” If you are looking for something a little more romantic, but still useful, how about a heart shaped cookie cutter or heart shaped measuring spoons?

Photos

Everyone loves to take photos at a wedding. It is a special day, everyone is looking their best and the mood is jubilant! Disposable cameras are fun to have on each table for your guests. What about including a mini heart shaped frame or album to take home? Then you don’t need to worry about getting your expensive professional photos out to everyone - they can take their own, and have fun doing it! There are so many styles and shapes of mini albums available now: floral, tuxedo, heart, wedding cake, and cupid, take your pick.

Uncommon

For something even more unusual how about an engraved melon baller? You could have your names and the wedding date engraved along with “Have a Ball!” If you are having a destination wedding, what about some chrome luggage tags for your guests? If the list is small, you could even have them personalized. Here is something every guest will use: a little reusable tin of bandages, personalized with your names. It is fun, definitely different and very usable. Pewter book marks adorned with a heart or flower would also be well received. If your wedding is taking place in the summer, on a warm day, what about giving your guests a fan as their wedding favor? No doubt they will appreciate the thought when the warmth of the day becomes bothersome. Fans can be made of bamboo and paper, silk or even scented sandalwood.

If all of these unique wedding favor ideas just don’t seem to hit the spot and you want something a little more romantic, how about a love notes gift box? In a nostalgic gift box wrapped in ribbon there could be a set of love notes for your guests to read on days they are feeling blue or when they just want to remember your wedding day. The gift box can be re-used when all the notes have been enjoyed, or the recipient could add more love notes! It is a simple idea, but something your guests will no doubt appreciate and talk about.

Making Wedding Favors Unique And Giving A Lasting Impression

Sunday, 5 September, 2010

The right wedding favors can be hard enough to find, seeing how they should reflect not only the occasion but the couple and all their guests, but for those in alternative lifestyles such as open marriages it can be highly challenging. On the one hand, traditional wedding favors don’t seem to honor the most special aspect of this kind of a marriage - namely, that it’s open and the couple isn’t exactly shy about the fact - but on the other hand most folks want to remember a marriage, not a social statement.

Of course, one might easily retort that marriage by definition is really a social statement to begin with - but the institution is so frequent and nearly universal that it is no “statement” at all, not in the sense of a declaration beyond the obvious.

Wedding favors are also statements, in effect, a kind of message from the couple to their guests. They symbolize what the couple wishes the guest to remember of the wedding, and also how the guest should view the couple. So how to go about choosing the right takeaway gift, the right memento?

In the end, it depends on the couple, of course. The overwhelming vast majority would no doubt prefer innocuous ceremonies and by extension souvenirs - even private affairs that make the official proclamation of their marriage blend into the vast background of all marriages occurring in their culture. Hence the double difficulty encountered by individuals in alternative family arrangements where nothing seems to recognize, much less celebrate, their beliefs.

What to do, then? Fortunately, many such individuals, individuals who pick and also proudly proclaim their unusual unions, are really creative and eminently capable of designing their own distinctive parting gifts for their guests. But as modern society becomes ever more permissive, it’s only a matter of time before enterprising people begin catering to this niche market with particular products that not only recognize their particular flavor of marriage but even honor it.
